THE INCREASING POPULARITY OF PRENUPTIALS

Today's Newsday article headed "Recently Separated Aguilera Files for Divorce" states that Christina Aguilera filed yesterday for a divorce from her husband of five years, Jordan Bratman.  The article goes on to explain that court documents show the couple have a prenuptial agreement in effect.  Apparently, Christina Aguilera is planning to challenge the agreement and the results in court remain to be seen.

Many celebrities sign prenuptial agreements, which protect assets and contain certain provisions regarding spousal support and division of marital assets.  Prenuptial agreements cannot address child custody or child support issues. 

In the case of celebrity clients and other newsworthy people, prenuptial agreements are beneficial to save legal fees and safeguard privacy.
